Leneve MARTIN

LeNeve Martin awakened on Friday 23 August, 1996 and talked with my father
before he went out and walked. My father returned from his walk to find my
mother laying on the floor and a pool of blood by her head. My father asked,
"Did you fall?" She replied, "No I didn't fall." He said, "You must of fallen because you've cut your lip and it is bleeding." My father helped her up and tried to take care of her cut lip. He helped her lay down on her bed. He told my mother he was going to call the doctor. She said, "I don't need you to call the doctor I'm fine." He said, "I'm going to call him anyway." My father tried to call the doctor and discovered that their office didn't open until 9 A.M. My mother told my father she was hungry. He went in the kitchen and fixed poached eggs, toast, and orange juice. He brought my mother in and gave her a piece of toast and a poached egg. When he brought her the egg he noticed she had put four times as much jam on her toast than she normally did. He looked at my mother and discovered that she was passing out. He laid her down on the floor and went to the door to see if there were neighbors near by who could help him get her back to her bed. He
couldn't see any neighbors, so he called 911. When the ambulance and fire
truck arrived the neighbors came out of their houses to see who was hurt. The paramedics took care of my mother and put her on the stretcher. Before they left Clarence Robison asked if there was something that he could do. They followed the ambulence to the hospital and gave her a blessing. My father called three of my siblings one of them he called was Larry. They took my mother to get a CAT scan they discovered that she had a major hemmorrhage. The doctor said it would be possible if they operated and drain the blood from the area of the brain where the bleed had occured there was a 2-5% chance that she would regain consciousness. If she did regain consciousness she would be highly impaired. He told the doctor that my mother was a brilliant woman and always was proud that she had always been healthy and been able to do everything herself. My father told the doctor we would just let nature take its course. If my mother died or came out of the coma we would deal with what ever happened.
I received a call from Larry about 11:30 A.M. He told me that my mother had a major stroke and they didn't know if she would die but the odds were not very good for her to live. I started to cry and told him that we wanted to come down right then even though we didn't know what would happen.
I called Clifford he said he needed to make arrangements for his business then he would be home and we would leave as soon as possible. We left home around 2 p.m. When we arrived in Snowville I turned to Clifford and said I didn't know if I would get to see my mother alive again. I said I guess it doesn't really matter because my mother as I had known her wasn't there anyway.
