Franklin Cox had his education in common school. He joined the Civil War 24
March 1863 he was in Co. F, 61st Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was a
corporal, then sargent, at mustering out 28 Sept 1865 he was a lieutenant.He fought in the battles of Shiloh, Corinth, Iuka, Vicksburg, capture of
Little Rock, Salem Cemetary near Jackson, Tenn., Murfreesboro, Hood Hill and
Nashville. He was captured at Nashville on 15 Dec 1864 and taken to
Andersonville prison camp in Georgia. He escaped on 20 Jan 1865.Franklin came to Kansas in March of 1866. He raised cattle from 1876 to 1879
in Cowley County. In 1879 he came to Stafford and was appointed county clerk,
afterwards he was elected county clerk for one term.He was in banking and owned the Stafford Bank around 1882. He was a member of
the Kansas State Legislature. Franklin was a member of the G.A.R.
