Stars of the Dhaka cinema Bobita and
Farrukh, backboard picture, Dhaka 1982. Seems our hero was in a
fight, judging by the blood streaming down his face; our heroine is
nonchalant in a European-style hat. Images suggesting men fighting
over women were popular. Movie stars have been by far the
most frequent material for ricksha artists, although it was banned
more or less during the mid-seventies because of official objections
that harked back to
a 1967 law on the books since East Pakistan days (before
Bangladesh independence in 1971). During the ban time, artists
proliferated images of love birds and animal fable satires.
