Yesterday is Tomorrow
by Alex Crogh
Telling the truth gains future trust.
Injuring yourself restricts sports tomorrow.
Practicing hard now brings new skills in time.
Fighting with friends creates loss of friendship.
Politeness brings life-time friends.
Not doing homework means my certain destruction.
Doing homework on time yields escape from wrath.
Having a healthy diet grows the strength of my muscles:
all past days are my future.
Planting seeds yesterday brings forth
sweet or sour fruit.
OMG
by Margaret Pope
as a short burst of vibration
silently disrupts my concentration.
Trying to resist temptation, like a child in a candy shop,
I debate my next move.
Imagining the crap and ridicule I will endure,
I slowly reposition my hand
to the opposite leg
to reduce distraction.
An instant later I feel it:
yet again,
that insatiable vibration. My hand
twitches, I repress
my natural instinct, give
in, have no more strength
to contain my impulse. I reach
in my right pocket, and pull out my vibrating,
silver wonder. I feel complete; finally, a magician with a trick.
I just have time to read the screen,
when suddenly, from across the dinner table,
my mother scolds;
"Margaret Gene, no phones at the table."
