KITTY "KITS" CAHILL
SEPTEMBER 1982 - DECEMBER 7, 2001
Kitty Cahill, 19 years and 3 months of age, beloved feline of Jim Hemphill and Laura Cahill, entered cat heaven on Friday, December 7, 2001 surrounded by his parents after enjoying an incredibly long and happy life (photo attached).  Born in September 1982, Laura was blessed to be given Kitty by a law school friend in November 1982 during her second year of law school.   Kitty spent the first 3 years of his life in a Hartford studio apartment with Laura enjoying outings to the Northford Reservoir, beaches, parks, and walks around our Asylum Avenue apartment building.  It was here that Kitty developed his lifelong love of bathtub water and jumping into a shower.
Affectionately known as Laura's "law school kitty", we both made it to the suburbs in 1985 by moving into a garden apartment at Century Hills in Rocky Hill.  Kitty was an expert at jumping off the garden apartment balcony to go outside for the day, and leaping 3 feet back onto the balcony with a body slam worthy of a world federation wrestler.
Kitty disappeared right before Laura moved away in October 1986 but was found in the Century Hills Penthouse Suites on the 8th floor (someone let Kitty into the building, onto the elevator, and let him out on the top floor), and off we went to our adventure at Hungerford Street.
Kitty and Laura lived with Ewin Sanchez for a year on the 1st floor of Hungerford Street, where his favorite sleeping spot was Ewin's waterbed.  Margaret (Ewin's then girlfriend) was allergic to cats but he didn't complain and came to love Kitty too.  Laura and Kitty moved up to the 3rd floor of Hungerford Street were his favorite pastimes were waiting for mouses by the brick chimney, fighting with Ripper, chasing hair-dryer cords, running up and down three
flights of stairs, and visiting everyone's apartments like he owned the house.  Kitty and Laura were blessed when Jim came into their lives in 1989, and as a family we moved to Glastonbury in December 1992.
Glastonbury is where Kitty settled into the retirement Laura promised would come his way.  For 9 years, Kitty roamed the neighborhood and regularly visited the Johnstons across the street who became his second family.
Kitty ate lots of bugs, chased birds and chipmunks and later on his new brother Ripper (see Hungerford Street) who came to live us in April 1997.  His favorite pastimes in our new home were sleeping on Laura/Jim on the couch while we watched tv, watching Laura garden, sleeping in the sun with Ripper on their separate "Go Away" doormats, chasing twist ties, jumping into Laura's shower because he loved the bathtub water, banging his paws on doors for attention, jumping on our bed at 3:00 am to sleep, eat or be let outside, and following us around the house and yard.
Kitty liked a glass of water to be left on the bedside table for him at night. As Kitty grew older, his developed a distinctive "rrrrr" for a voice, and his favorite foods were Friskies flaked tuna, pounce, sandwich meats, creamed corn, and snack-pack pudding.
Kitty leaves behind Jim, Laura, James, Ripper, the Johnstons, and all those who knew and loved him.  Kitty will be deeply missed for he was a feline friend who loved his momma and dad unconditionally.  Burial took place under the front yard dogwood tree which enjoys the sunrise from the east and the cool shade of the afternoon.  Kitty has earned his rest, and Laura is comforted by the knowledge that G-d will look after her beloved Kitty until the day they meet again.
