STALLINGS KICKS OFF CAMPAIGN FOR CONGRESS
Seeks Return to Fight for Idaho's Families,Way of Life

Pocatello - Former Congressman Richard Stallings officially kicked off the campaign to regain his old seat today. In appearances in Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Twin Falls and Boise, Stallings addressed supporters and reporters, outlining his reasons for returning to the campaign trail and his views on key issues.

In his day-long swing through the sprawling Second District, Stallings discussed the key issues of the campaign: "I'm running for Congress again because it's the best way for me to serve you as we work to preserve our agricultural economy, to create and protect jobs, to offer a better education to our children and to ensure a secure future for our retirees."

Stallings also touched on critical issues of specific concern to Idaho's residents and businesses. "For years now, I have been a leading advocate of the INEEL facility," said Stallings. "But for this facility to survive and thrive, we must find new missions so its work remains vital in the new economy. We also need to clean up Pit 9 and other waste sites and work for the quick approval of the Lockheed contract."

But the candidate's strongest language was reserved for the important matter of utility deregulation. "The most serious threat to our way of life here in Idaho is the rush to deregulate electricity," he said. "Just as there are those who have wanted for years to get their hands on Idaho's water, there are many more who are interested in our power."

"I'll fight to make sure that rural, residential and small business consumers receive fair rates and the access they need," Stallings declared. "Whether it's our water or our power the lifeblood of Idaho we cannot sit back and allow powerful utilities and special interests to sell it off. Deregulation may sound good to those from New York or Los Angeles, but it could well be devastating to us here in Idaho."
