The museum is home to an incredible textile collection that represents 150 years of textile history. Not only are the textiles displayed but many of the instruments and tools used in their production are included. Many of the artifacts were made by the sisters at St. Andrews Convent in Sarnen, Switzerland, at the Monastery of St. Gertrude and by ladies on the Camas Prairie. Much of the intricate, delicate hand work is a “thing of the past”. A short list of textile artifacts includes: hand embroidered vestments (some ca. 1880); numerous wedding dresses (some ca. 1880); silk embroidery (some ca. 1860); hand woven netting; thimbles; lace-making bobbins (ca. 1840); and more. |
