BIOGRAPHY - NEJWAH'S MID-EASTERN DANCE TROUPE
Nejwah's Mid-Eastern Dance Troupe, formed in 1983, is comprised of seven dancers who specialize in
authentic, traditional dancing.
Their shows offer a variety of family entertainment. In addition to cabaret dancing, they perform specialty and folk dances from Arabia, Greece, Morocco, Egypt, Persia, and Tunisia. The troupe's 30 to 60 minute performances follow a pattern of changing musical moods, demonstrating the mystique, emotion, and fun of Mid-Eastern dancing. The troupe uses authentic music and costuming, and cultural and historical information is presented with each dance.
Nejwah's Mid-Eastern Dance Troupe has always been very popular with local audiences and they have
often been selected as the exclusive representative of Mid-Eastern dancing at many festivals. A partial list of engagements includes: Boise Art in the Park
from 1987 through 1989 and again in 1993, the 1988 Sun Valley Art Festival , the Western Idaho Fair from 1987 through 1996, the Festival of Trees from 1993 through 1998, the
Boise River Festival in 1991 and 1992, the Renaissance Faire from 1989 through 1996, and the Idaho State Centennial Celebration
. Additionally, three of the troupe's dancers, Il Eyana, Geneva, and Sahra, are featured weekly at Aladdin's Egyptian Restaurant.
Nejwah, the troupe's director, has performed in the Boise area for over 20 years, and has
instructed bellydancing for over 18 years. In addition to managing the troupe, she owns and operates Bellydance By Nejwah, a service which offers performances for parties and conventions, and bellygrams for
birthdays and other occasions.
