When you enroll in the PADI Enriched Air Diver course with Omni Divers your fee ($250) will
include all instructional fees, the Enriched Air Diver Manual, EANx32 Recreational Dive
Planner, EANx36 Recreational Dive Planner, Oxygen Exposure Table/Equivalent Air Depth Table
for Enriched Air (nitrox), Enriched Air Diving video, Personal Identification Card
registration envelope, certification card and various handouts.
The Following Enriched Air Nitrox Items Not Included in Fees
Enriched Air Nitrox is air which has been enriched with oxygen, so it has more than 21%
oxygen. By adding additional oxygen to the mixture the rate of nitrogen absorption into the
body is reduced. The primary application of enriched air is to extend your no decompression
limits beyond those of normal air. Enriched air replaces some of the nitrogen you would
breathe underwater with oxygen, so you absorb less nitrogen than you would for the same
dive breathing normal air.
Argumentative note - in your nitrox notes, adding the O2 to the blend doesn't reduce your
nitrogen absorption, you could add H2 and also reduce your N2 uptake, its reducing the N2
that reduces your N2 absorption (Dan M. August 12, 1998).
A common misconception among divers is that Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) is a deep diving
gas. In fact, EANx is best applied to shallower dives. As an example of the improved bottom
time one may realize by using EANx a diver making a dive to 60 feet on air has a no
decompression limit of 55 minutes. In contrast, a diver making the same dive on Nitrox
containing 36% oxygen would have a no decompression limit of 115 minutes. That's an hour
more bottom time! (Results based on the PADI Recreational Dive Planner).
