Nari Pragati Sangha activists protesting lack of safety measures in garment factories in the city on November 27. Dreadful fires have occurred in the prolific garment factories, where various kinds of clothing are made for US and EU markets. Typically, the women workers are locked into the factory to prevent them from leaving the premises. They desperately need these low paying jobs, so they give in to bad treatment. When a fire breaks out, many die. Note the class differences in dress and demeanor between the women in this image and in the preceding image. In this image we see that the protesters are less expensively dressed, more angry. (This image and preceding, credit to The Independent online. Dhaka, Bangladesh.
