This is often the fate of some rickshas during hartals (general strikes), when a poor rickshawala decides to accept a fare even though he is technically not supposed to travel during a hartal. Burning rickshas has also been done from time to time by ultra-conservative religious mobs, who object to the ricksha art, especially movie star pictures. The main loser is the owner (malik) of the ricksha, who might own a few to a hundred or more machines. The rickshawala will no doubt be given another ricksha to rent from the owner--to whom he pays a per cent of daily fares. Bangladesh, 2000
